Jailbreakme!

If you’re an iPhone user, you’ve undoubtedly heard about the new Jailbreak craze that hit the market this weekend. A company released an online website called jailbreakme, and unlike previous jailbreaks which required the iPhone to be connected to a computer, the latest jailbreak posted by the iPhone Dev Team at Jailbreakme.com is accomplished via the Safari browser on the actual iPhone. The thing that surprises me is the amount of people that actually trusted this website with their iPhones. The fact that is can be performed through Safari and the process itsself proves that just about anyone can control one’s iPhone just by the user visiting a certain web page. According to a PCMag blog, this website “jailbreaks” the iPhone by means of a PDF-based vulnerability in the OSX. And to no surprise, greedy iPhone users are already complaining about the length of time it takes to complete and the fact that some users can’t get it to work.

This comes as quite an unwanted shock to me. As an strong Apple supporter, the latest chain of publicity has not been strong. You know, the new Blackberry Torch looks pretty cool…
